Number of pupils:
Age range:
Activity type:

Topic:

This workshop questions why it has taken so long to introduce 3G mobile phones, identifying lack of bandwidth as a key issue. It explores the area of data compression and decompression - essential in any application where the bandwidth is low or storage is limited - and gets pupils working with the kinds of algorithms that underlie the Zip utility found on a PC.

A document outlining the learning aims of this workshop can be downloaded using the link at the right hand side of this page. Educators can register with the website in order to download workshop packs.

Feedback from Teacher to CSinside...(via Feedback Questionnaire)

Posted by:Margaret Brown, Fri 4th Jul 2008, 11:25AM

Extract from Feedback: We ran the workshop with S1 and S3 pupils. This workshop is too difficult for S1 and that is reflected in the comments they made. ....
We added colour to the other worksheets (2 and 3) to highlight the repeating patterns (and ask the pupils to use colouring pencils on the worksheets to underline patterns).
